Even though a business may seem to be ethical, if any part of the business does not adhere to ethically business practices, it can cause major issues for a company. Article 92 Essay Article 92 of the uniform code of military justice is when a solider fails to obey an order or regulation given to them by an NCO, officer, or someone pointed above them in section or squad. Article 92 is perhaps the most important article in the entirety of the Uniform Code of Military Justice. Any military member, whether in the Army, Air Force, Marines, Navy, or Coast Guard who fail to obey a lawful order of their superiors risk serious consequences. Article 92 of the Uniform Code of Military Justice makes it a crime to disobey any lawful order. It lays down the ground law, the absolute line which may not be crossed. Everything else in the uniform code of military justice is explanation of the various forms that disobeying an order can take. Without the support given by Article 92, service members would be free to do whatever they want, whenever they want, and there wouldnt be any discipline in the United States armed service an order is a tasking given to a soldier of something that needs to be done in a timely and efficient manner. An order given by someone who is a higher rank or position then you is a lawful order and can be punished by uniform code of military justice or court martial. It is crucial to always follow orders given because it could lead to an unwanted accident. The only way that an order by an NCO, officer, or someone pointed above them is not a lawful order if it contrary to the Constitution of the United States. Failing to fallow a lawful order from some who is not a higher rank then you is still punishable by article 92 of the uniform code of military justice. The three main reasons why it is important for a soldier to follow the orders they are given is to be combat effective, disciplined, and to just be a good soldier. In my own words, Article 92 is not doing something that you have been told to do. It is a lot like doing what your parents told you to do as a child. Any article should not be taken lightly and is always a serious matter. when a person enlists in the United States Military, active duty or reserve, they take the following oath; â€Å"I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice. When u take that oath you are making a promise to the military to be a solider and that means to obey all military orders. Greater orders mean bigger consequences. Military members who fail to obey the lawful orders of their superiors risk serious consequences. To obey someone means to comply with or fulfill the commands, restrictions, wishes, or instructions of that specific person. We are taught as children to obey our higher-ups. Soren Kierkegaard In the world of the existentialist there are many questions that need answering. Why do we exist? What is right and what is wrong? Who decides what is right and what is wrong? Throughout his life, existentialist, Soren Kierkegaard tried to answer these and many other perplexing questions. Kierkegaard was a devout Christian who felt that it should be the goal of all humans to become a Christian just as he had. Human life in general does not really concern the existentialist, however the choices that the human makes throughout their life, do. ?The primary goal of the existentialist writer is to make all humans aware that they are living individuals who in their freedom make decisions and are responsible for them.? (Oaklander 3) Numerous themes abound in the existentialist's world that they deal with and discuss in their writings. Examples would be: primacy of the individual, critique of reason, inauthentic vs. authentic, the boundary situation, alienation, encounter with nothingness, dread, community, freedom and commitment. In his works, Soren Kierkegaard attempted to answer the question of what exactly the goal of the human person was. His primary question was one of a religious nature. He believed that it was the goal of all persons to become close with God, accept him and become a Christian. ?Kierkegaard's writings enable the individual to come to grips with his or her own ?subjectivity'.? (Oaklander 2) ?Kierkegaard was one of the first existential thinkers to believe that truth is found only in one's own individual, not in psychological experience, science, philosophy or the sciences of the world. These things are just objects with no truth value.? (Oaklander 2) In his book ?Fear and Trembling?, Kierkegaard deals with three of the eight afore mentioned themes of existentialism. He discusses the inauthentic versus the authentic and alienation. The primary focus of the text is the story of Abraham and Isaac. The story is also Kierkegaard's explanation of why he called off his engagement to his long time love, Regine Olsen. It is said that upon figuring out what he truly wanted in life, which was to become a Christian, Kierkegaard realized that it was not possible to become one with God while trying to maintain a marriage. So, he broke off his engagement to Miss Olsen in order to achieve his priority of becoming a Christian. ?According to Kierkegaard there are three stages of human existence. The most immature being the aesthetic stage.? (Jansen 1) During this stage humans are dominated by their desires, be them physical, emotional or intellectual. The goal of these people is simply to gain pleasure however satisfaction is non-existent. This is when an existentialist would say that the person is living inauthentically, living without coming to terms with one's existence. Stage two shows people beginning to be overcome by a sense of right and wrong. Humans are now facing ethical situations. ?Choices are often ambiguous, though, and sometimes people must choose between equally evil options, so those in the ethical stage remain as unfulfilled as those in the aesthetic stage.? (Jansen 1) By the end of this stage the ethical person becomes a person of morality and morality becomes their chief principle. The third and final stage of Kierkegaard's stages of faith is the religious stage, which is primarily what ?Fear and Trembling? deals with. It is in this stage that the move to an authentic level of being is made. These people however can be put into two groups. Group 1, are those bound by guilt, while Group 2 is made up of those who live in total response to God. In Kierkegaard's novel, ?Fear and Trembling?, the story of Abraham and Isaac is used to illustrate not only the themes of alienation and the inauthentic vs. the authentic, but in some ways it tells the story of Kierkegaard's life. Williams, expressed a similar sentiment by saying that there â€Å"’are no ideas but in things† (Goodblatt and Glicksohn 428). Considering this perspective, the following analysis focuses on the imagery that Williams uses in â€Å"Poem,† which offers a typical example of Williams’s utilization of metaphor and imagery within a short lyric form. Williams is most renowned for his depiction of life in his hometown of Rutherford, New Jersey, where he gained fame as one of America’s most distinguished poets, and also practiced as a family doctor for 40 years. Unlike many of his peers, Williams never employed â€Å"complex symbols or rarefied literary allusions,† but rather tended to focus on subjects that surrounded him, that is, his hometown, â€Å"its landscapes and its people† (William† 9). It may have been the scientist in Williams that inclined him toward the use of â€Å"concise concrete images† and the utilization of â€Å"homely words of everyday speech,† but there is no denying that this characterizes his poetic style† (William 9). Considering this, the first question that the reader asks on reading â€Å"Poem† is what, precisely is Williams trying to say. The image is concrete; the text of the poem is concise: As the cat Climbed over The top of The jamcloset First the right Forefoot Carefully then the hind Stepped down Into the pit of The empty Flowerpot (Williams). This poem works as an extended metaphor. The cat is carefully climbing over the jamcloset, placing each foot precisely. The reader’s first task at problem-solving is to determine the meaning of â€Å"jamcloset,† which is familiar or readily defined. This word does not appear in Webster’s or other dictionaries. This suggests that Williams intended for this work to conjure an image. â€Å"Jam packed† is defined as something that is crammed with things to the point that nothing can be added. Perhaps Williams means for this word to conjure an image of a closet jammed with things, with a cat carefully negotiating the top. On the other hand, the word â€Å"jam† could refer to a fruit spread used on toast, in which case, the word â€Å"jamcloset† suggests a pantry and there is the suggestion that the cat is after a taste of jam. In either case, the emphasis of the poem is on the cat’s eventual destination. The reader can see the cat stepping so carefully, first one foot and then the other. The short lines and smooth flow of words mirror the careful and feline movements of the car. Only in the last stanza does the reader realize that the cat has moved so carefully into the â€Å"pit of an empty flowerpot.† This turns the image of the precise and careful cat into something comical. The first assumption of the reader is that the cat is moving precisely to obtain a specific purpose; something that the reader would judge as a useful intention from a human perspective. This, however, is not the case, as the cat ends up squashed into the flower pot, which Williams makes clear was the animal’s intention all along. As this suggests, this imagery says more about the human reader that it does about the cat. Human beings are goal oriented. The deliberate, purposeful movement that Williams describes naturally conjures a feeling in the reader that the cat must have a specific goal, whether this is capturing a mouse or pursuing some other goal that makes sense within the feline perspective. What Williams appears to be telling his readers is that the world obeys its own rules. The cat is fascinated by and wants to sit in the flower pot. It does not make sense from a human point of view, but there it is and that is the reality of this situation. Implied within the assumed perspective of the reader and image of the flower-potted cat is also the realization that this has meaning and relevancy. The world does not have to have goals, purpose or meaning from a human perspective in order to be meaningful. It just is. Children understand this, and a child would probably delight in the flower-potted cat and understand the world can look different and interesting from such a perspective. Adults tend to lose their joy in seeing the unexpected and exploring the unknown by trying on viewpoints that are new and different. As this indicates, however, Williams’ use of imagery suggests meaning at multiple levels with concise, brief poetry. In â€Å"Poem,† the poet offers an image that suggests more than is stated implicitly. The cat, so carefully placing first one foot and then the other delicately into the pit of the flowerpot, not only conveys the inquisitive nature of the animal, but also the fact that the cat represents an aspect of existence that adult humans often avoid. By surprising the reader with the cat’s destination, Williams subtly suggests that adults are too predictable. We, like children and cats, should attempt to see the world with fresh eyes, and perhaps try wiggling into new perspectives that may seem alien at first, but afford the viewer with new experiences. Perhaps, we should not smile at the seeming lunacy of the cat until we have sat in a flowerpot atop the â€Å"jamcloset† and seen what there is to see from this perspective.
